Fightstore's FREE Saturday Injury Clinic

Fightstore's FREE Saturday Injury Clinic - FightstorePro

Everyone who does martial arts sooner or later gets an injury. We all know this and especially if you are competing or getting a bit older, they tend to get more and more frequent. If you do any form of grappling, Jiu Jitsu, MMA, Wrestling, Judo and more,  you'll know how easy it is to twist, strain or worse multiple areas of your body.

Anyone who has ever been to the Gp surgery about a martial arts injury knows that look on their face when you explain how you got injured. Then it comes,  that great piece of advice every frekking doctor gives you.....

"Take a few weeks off, rest it and it'll heal"

Brilliant, you think. When a premier leagues star striker (Oh FFS NUFC) gets injured I don't believe the club doctor says this. I think they go straight to the treatment room and start physio then rehab.

The other thing is GP's are in the main concerned with average Joes, not athletes. What you need is a physio who understands what you are trying to do....A Sports physio.

But even getting an assessment and understanding your injury can be difficult right? And worse it can cost a lot of money.

So here's where we can help.

Our man Jamie Berry has been doing Jiu Jitsu for over twenty years and is a fully qualified physio therapist. His day job is with the NHS and he sometimes helps us out on a Saturday to cover shifts.

We are happy to announce Jamie has agreed to offer FREE 20 minute consultations on a Saturday at FIGHTSTOREPRO in Team Valley.

IF you need some help here is what you need to do.

1. Show up on a Saturday between 10.30am and 3pm, no appointment needed but please give yourself at least an hour available as he might be dealing with customers.
2. Jamie will assess your injury and make some suggestions on how you can move towards healing it.
3. If you want additional help talk to Jamie on the day and see how you can move forward.

Martial arts—especially grappling-heavy ones like BJJ, judo, wrestling, or MMA—are tough on the body. The mix of joint locks, takedowns, constant scrambles, and pressure creates a high risk for both acute injuries (like sprains or dislocations) and overuse issues (like tendonitis or chronic back pain). As people age or train/compete more intensely, the wear and tear naturally adds up.

Common problem areas are:

  • Neck & Shoulders – from constant pressure, guillotines, and posting.

  • Knees – vulnerable in takedowns, guard passes, and twisting submissions.

  • Elbows & Wrists – arm locks, posting on the mat, grip fighting.

  • Lower Back & Hips – from being stacked, guard retention, and explosive bridging.

That said, smart training and recovery can make a huge difference. Things like proper warm-ups, mobility work, strength training (especially for stabilizing joints), and knowing when to tap or rest can reduce both the frequency and severity of injuries.
